Attention Homeowners:
If you have a solar hot water heating system, you may be scalded by steam unless your system has correctly sized expansion tanks in the case that the electricity goes off and the pump is not running. The water in the heating tubes is no longer flowing, so it may boil and expand; the pressure in the system can cause steam and hot water to leak from the tubes, perhaps in the basement. If your electricity goes off during the day, please take additional caution. If you have a do-it-yourself system, please check that you have the correctly sized expansion tanks for your system.
