Solar energy is often dismissed as an expensive niche market for the few but the facts suggest that solar energy may be the only acceptable resource with enough scope to match peak demand and power the planet through the long term. In the near term, solar deployment provides opportunities to reduce stress on electric power grids and minimize the risk of blackouts in large cities and suburban areas of New York.
