Lobby Day in Albany NY

Monday, April 11, 2011

On Monday, April 11, you are invited to spend the day visiting the offices of energy committee members from the Assembly and the Senate. Make friends with "staffers" and collect information about each member's intentions. Learn first hand who is in favor of what. The budget is done. It's time to let Albany know we care about jobs and how to finance the renewable revolution.

Our team leader for the day is Mark Gordon, long time member of NYSES. He'll have the handouts. Meet in the cafeteria on the concourse near the security gates for the capitol and the legislative office building at 10 am. Visit with fellow lobbyists and make plans to go from office to office starting at 10:30.

Attached is the list of reps on the energy committees. It's OK to call ahead and set up a meeting with your elected officials and have the support of other solar enthusiasts. If they are in session, you'll send in a note and they will come out.

In May we'll have another Lobby Day and keep the pressure on. We need your voice to be heard. Lets grow solar in New York.

Attached are the members and the Feed in Tariff handout. "Feed in Tariff" doesn't ring a bell with most people so be ready to say, "Pay for power produced" or something like that. Incentives come and go but to be paid a certain amount for power produced is a guarantee we can all take to the bank.

And, yes, we are a 501(c)(3) and we are allowed to spend 10% of our time/money on lobbying. Many prefer to call it educating our elected officials. Vermont and Ontario have FIT's and rumor has it Connecticut's Governor wants and FIT, not an SREC. We don't have a FIT bill yet so let's go for it.

With warm regards,
